Mary  Ellen Tippins

Savannah- Mary Ellen Tippins, 74, died Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the home of her sister after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Mary Ellen was born in Claxton, GA and her family moved to Savannah when she was 4 years old. Mary Ellen graduated in 1957 from Savannah High School, earned a degree in social work from Armstrong and a law degree from John Marshall Law School.

Mary Ellen's career was very diverse with travels to Europe where she worked as a Seismograph Technician then returning to Savannah to work as a Social Worker for Chatham County. Mary Ellen worked as a secretary, paralegal and was also self-employed as a title abstractor.

She was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church where she also sang in the choir.

She was past president of The Savannah Shag Club.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Berry B. Tippins and Ola Mae Sikes Tippins, and her brother, Ted Tippins.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Gail Tippins, sister-in-law, Sandra Tippins and lovingly known as "Aunt Mimi" to several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1008 E. Henry St., Savannah GA 31401.
